  Chapter One

‘We have a new secretary as of ten minutes ago,’ Tina said to Caden as she leant against his desk. It had been a bad day so far, with two of his clients telling him they were using again. His third appointment, Bart, hadn’t even showed, which was certainly another worry to heap on to Caden’s already very tall pile of concerns.

‘I hope they’ll be an improvement over the last one.’ Caden looked up from the open file on his desk. Tina’s entry into his office had been a more than welcome break from the file, which held all Caden’s notes on the absent Bart. ‘You aren’t just in here to tell me that, though, are you?’

‘Smart man!’ Tina grinned at him.

Great, Caden thought, what did she want him to do now?

‘You think you could give him a tour?’

  ‘Why?’

‘Oh, no reason. He’s just super-hot is all. And he seems to swing your way.’ Tina could get away with saying such things, as she most definitely did not swing his way, and had the girlfriend to prove it.

‘I’m swamped, though,’ Caden said, even though he wasn’t, at least at the moment. Even if the idea of giving a “super-hot” new secretary a tour of their office happened to appeal to him quite a bit. ‘Can’t you do it?’

‘No can do, sweet cheeks. I have three more appointments today and piles of paperwork to boot. Besides, don’t you want to see if I’m right?’

‘If you insist,’ Caden said, making sure to sigh theatrically as he closed the file and got up from his desk. ‘The things you talk me into.’

‘Trust me, you’ll thank me as soon as you lay eyes on him.’

And what did he know, Tina was right. The young man standing next to the front desk was gorgeous. He had shiny, black hair pulled back into a lush ponytail, a tall and lanky figure Caden’s favourite and a lovely, admittedly sexy smile playing across his lips. As Caden approached where he was standing, the man’s glowing smile was suddenly turned on Caden, and Caden found himself almost getting weak in the knees. Oh lord, what on earth had gotten into him? It had only been, what, five months since he’d gotten laid? No, a little over five months, Caden realised, as he stifled a sigh. It had been over five months, which was far, far too long. And yes, he would be working with this man, and the man appeared to be a little on the young side, but with looks like that, who the hell cared?

‘Persius, is it?’ Caden reached out his hand.

‘Yep.’ Persius took Caden’s hand in his own, and Caden couldn’t help noticing how soft the young man’s skin was. He found he was a little disappointed when their hands separated, a thought which he tried to push out of his head as quickly as it had entered.

After a relatively quick tour of their office, which was so small that a quick tour was all it took, Caden left Persius at the front desk. He found he had a strong temptation to do something he’d avoided doing at work up until that point, something which he knew was highly inappropriate. So he raced home on his lunch break and took care of himself there, getting off not once, but twice. Yes, that was how hot this young man was. It took not one, but two orgasms to get his head – and body – empty of his strong and quite sudden desire for Persius. Caden chastised himself on the drive back to work, having to eat as he drove because of the seemingly necessary side trip he’d taken to his apartment. He managed to get his head mostly cleared of Persius by the time he settled back behind his desk, but a few thoughts of the hot secretary were still sprinkled in with those he was supposed to be thinking – the thoughts he was paid to think. This young man had some kind of intense, sexual pull on him – Caden joked to himself that it must have involved some kind of magic, because it seemed as if he’d never been this attracted to someone in his whole life.

So at the end of the day, when Persius suggested they go out for a few beers, Caden realised that he just didn’t have the strength to turn him down. But it would just be a few beers, nothing more, Caden told himself as he got ready to leave. Yes, just a few beers. With this drop-dead sexy man. Right.

Since Persius didn’t have a car, Caden drove them to his favourite bar, fighting against his urge to check out his passenger instead of watching the road. Once they entered the bar, they sat down in a booth, and Persius surprised him by sitting on the same side of it as Caden. They each ordered a pint from the waitress and then both men fell silent. It wasn’t necessarily an uncomfortable silence, Caden realised with a relieved smile, but one like old friends or long-time partners might share. It was nice.

Then the silence was broken by Persius. ‘I love your hair.’

‘Really?’ Caden brought his hand up to his chin-length locks, trying not to think about how bad a hair day he was certain he was having.

‘Your hair, it has highlights of copper and gold … Actually, it’s amazing.’

‘This hair is amazing?’ Caden said, not without a little shock. Persius’s hair was amazing, but his? His hair was wavy in all the wrong places, and impossible to work with, but it was hair that Persius was now caressing, his hand gently brushing against Caden’s scalp.

‘You want to get out of here?’ Caden found himself asking. Had he really just said that? They’d just met! But he felt, in that moment, that he had to have Persius, had to fuck him, and he found himself growing hard at the thought.

‘Definitely,’ Persius replied, placing his full, tasty-looking lips on Caden’s. They tasted sweet, like cinnamon and sugar, and Caden found himself thinking that one could get addicted to that taste. He also found himself thinking, as Persius slipped his tongue between Caden’s lips, that this was one of the best first kisses of his life. A silly thought, considering he’d just met this guy, this guy who was coming home with him on the very day they met. This certainly wasn’t the beginning of a life-long engagement. No, it was just immense, unstoppable lust.

Thankfully, the drive to Caden’s apartment was very short, taking a mere five minutes. He led Persius into his apartment, and barely had time to lock his front door before Persius grabbed his crotch and slammed him against the wall.

‘I’ve wanted this ever since I first laid eyes on you,’ Persius said; his hand’s slight movements on Caden’s crotch were immensely arousing.

‘So – so have I.’ Caden found he was already breathless, and they had barely even started. This was obviously going to be absolutely amazing sex. Then Persius began to undo the front of Caden’s jeans, and he yanked them down to his knees, revealing Caden’s thick, rock-hard cock.

‘You have a beautiful dick, Caden. So lovely.’ Persius wrapped his fist around it. ‘So … big,’ he said into Caden’s ear, and he gave Caden’s dick a squeeze. Caden gasped, almost collapsing to the floor. How could just a mere fist around his cock feel so unbelievably good? And then Persius asked a wonderful question. ‘Where’s your bedroom? I want to fuck you. Right now.’

  Caden ab
andoned his pants and shoes in the hallway, and he couldn’t possibly have been in more of a rush to get to his room. Upon arrival, he felt a little annoyance – his bed was unmade, the sheets in a pile at the bottom of it, and books, magazines, and DVDs were strewn all around. But this annoyance only lasted for a moment, because after that moment, Persius tossed him to the bed, and then began to strip off his own clothes, revealing a toned chest, a tight, fuckable ass, and a hard, lengthy cock, a cock which Caden was desperate to touch.

He pulled a condom out of his bedside table’s drawer, then got on his knees, rolling it onto Persius’s dick as he stared up at the young man’s lovely face. Unable to wait any longer, he slowly slid the dick into his mouth, taking it all the way down his throat and causing Persius to tilt back his head and moan.

‘God, this is better than I possibly could have imagined.’ Persius sighed, placing a hand on Caden’s head as Caden bobbed up and down on his cock. ‘You’re so good at sucking cock, Caden, you little slut.’ Persius began to fuck Caden’s face, causing a line of drool to run down Caden’s chin as Persius’s cock pumped in and out of his lips. ‘Good boy, letting me fuck your face like this. And if you’re really good, I’ll let you jack off while I fuck your face. Can you be good?’

‘Mmm,’ Caden moaned around Persius’s dick. Could he ever!

‘Go ahead, Caden. Wrap your fingers around that dick of yours. Come all over your bed while you suck my dick.’

Caden grabbed his cock and began to stroke it, squeezing it tight in his fist. He was desperate for an orgasm by this point, but even more than that, he wanted to get Persius off. So he slowed his hand, sliding it up and down his dick at a much slower pace. But he couldn’t hold off for very long, he found, as he felt the pressure of an orgasm building up inside him.

Please, he thought, let us come together. And then he felt Persius’s dick get stiffer and stiffer in his mouth, and so he sped up his fist. Just as he was beginning to fall over the edge, he heard Persius gasp and say, ‘Fuck, I’m almost there. Come with me, Caden … Come … with … me.’ And so Caden jacked off with all he had, and then his body tightened and he began to come, and so did Persius, both of their bodies shuddering as they got off.

Slowly and gently, Persius pulled his softening cock out of Caden’s mouth. He leant down and kissed Caden on the forehead, just a light brush of lips. But Caden couldn’t help smiling a little from the young man’s kiss.

Caden took the used condom from Persius, placing it in his bedside trashcan with pride. That had been fucking amazing sex, he thought with a grin. Would he be lucky enough for it to happen again, though?

‘I’m starving,’ Persius said, pulling Caden up from the bed. ‘Know any good restaurants around here?’

‘Why don’t I just fix us something? You like mac and cheese? My mom taught me how to make it from scratch, actually, and I think I – just barely – am able to do her version justice.’

‘Mac and … cheese?’ Persius got a strange expression on his face then. Caden almost laughed. It looked like Persius had never heard of mac and cheese before. But he was probably just a little fried from his orgasm. ‘Sounds great,’ Persius finally said. ‘Can I help?’

‘Sure you can. Let’s put on our pants and underwear and I’ll get the food started.’

About 45 minutes later, they were sitting down in the kitchen, getting ready to dig into the macaroni and cheese and a small salad Caden had thrown together to go with it. Persius had acted strangely while they cooked, and Caden found himself feeling a little confused. Did Persius regret what they had done? Was that why he’d fallen mostly silent while they’d made dinner?

Persius seemed to love the end result, though, complimenting Caden’s cooking at least three times in between large bites from his plate. And as they ate, Caden decided to find out a little about Persius. He began by asking him about his parents.

‘My parents … Well, I don’t really talk to them very much any more. Once they found out I was gay, they kind of – pushed me away,’ Persius said, his face falling a bit as he took a sip of his water. ‘I guess they couldn’t handle my orientation.’

Caden felt lucky then – he was still quite close to his mother and stepfather. Even his father, who was a hardcore Republican, had eventually accepted the fact that Caden was gay. But right now, he tried to downplay his closeness to them, not wanting to make Persius feel bad. ‘My parents are pretty OK with it, I guess.’

‘Count your lucky stars, then. I wish mine were, but, well, what can you do?’

Next, Caden learned that Persius was 22, right around the age he had guessed. Caden hesitantly admitted that he was turning 30 in April. But Persius didn’t seem to find that to be a bad thing, so Caden decided he didn’t really have to see it as one either. After all, Persius seemed rather mature despite his young age, and besides, that had been the hottest sex Caden had had in ages – who cared if they were separated by almost eight years? A thing like that didn’t really matter, especially since this was not the beginning of a relationship – other people might have liked becoming partners after having sex on a first date, but that wasn’t Caden’s style. As nice as Persius was, Caden wanted this to be limited to sex, sex and not much else. After all, the age difference might not have mattered, but beyond that, Caden just couldn’t see himself with Persius. As nice as the young man was, he’d leapt into bed with Caden, and that just wasn’t how Caden liked to start his relationships. His sexual ones, sure, but future boyfriends had always needed to play hard to get, or Caden would wind up losing interest in them. So when Persius got ready to leave, Caden didn’t ask him when he could see him again.

He sat down on his couch after Persius had left, starting to flip through a new magazine he had just bought. Then he swore. Of course he didn’t have to ask when he could see Persius again – they’d be seeing each other at work the next day. He couldn’t believe he’d finally managed to mix work and play. Damn it all. And then he found himself hoping that Persius wouldn’t get attached. Young guys like him were unpredictable, after all. Who knew what Persius had left his apartment thinking? Well, he reasoned, the next day would either be awful or absolutely fine. Caden turned on his TV and put in a DVD, but he was barely able to pay attention to the movie. His thoughts were almost all focused on Persius, and despite the fact that the sex had been fiery hot, it was starting to seem like a huge mistake.

  Chapter Two

Persius had gotten back to his new apartment around nine in the evening. And now, at 9.45, he was rather still rather upset, frowning as he sat in his rocking chair and drank a glass of beer. A wonderful thing, beer, another thing humans had gotten very, very right.

The night really hadn’t gone according to plan. Not in the least! He certainly hadn’t been planning on sleeping with Caden the first time they met … But Caden had proven to be irresistible. Persius hadn’t expected his charge to have such a hold on him, but he should have known this would happen. After all, he’d already possessed strong feelings for his charge, despite the fact that he really shouldn’t, as Caden had appeared to be an amazing man. Persius had been watching him for almost a year, and Caden hadn’t done a single thing to make Persius dislike him. Well, he had slept with a few men while Persius had been watching him in the gazing pools, and those actions gave Persius a bit of pain – he really didn’t want to watch this wonderful man having sex with people other than himself. But he knew he shouldn’t have become attached to Caden – all he was supposed to do was stop him from getting killed.

Which was inevitable unless Persius could figure out when and where it was going to happen. The gazing pools never lied to the prophets, and Persius knew this. So, at some point, Caden was going to find himself in front of a door, with a man pointing a gun at him, and this man would shoot Caden and kill him. All of this would happen for certain, unless Persius could manage to stop it. That was his job as Caden’s fairy guardian.

It was not, however, his job to develop feelings for his char
ges, and it certainly wasn’t his job to have incredibly hot sex with them. But Caden had, in more ways than one, become someone for whom Persius had an immense, unstoppable desire. And, being who he was, Persius had not managed to damp down this absolutely irresistible desire; instead, he had followed it down the path to the sex he’d just had with his charge – with Caden – the sex he’d wanted to have for those ten months he’d been watching him and planning on how to enter his life. The job opening at Caden’s office had come up – the perfect event to find a way into Caden’s world. But Persius hadn’t planned for it to be the perfect event to find his way into Caden’s pants. And worse yet, he could tell that Caden didn’t take him seriously, and certainly didn’t want to consider him as a possible partner. Which was just as well. Persius would have to return to his home world, Faeyne, whenever the time came for him to stop the seemingly inevitable event from occurring. To prevent this man he cared about from being shot. And then it was back home, back to business as usual, and time to exit Caden’s life. Permanently.

‘Goddamn it!’ Persius slammed down the glass of beer, his third, causing some to slosh over the edge of the glass and onto his silver side table. He’d picked up almost all the human slang over the few years he’d spent watching over his American charges, and could now swear in English like the best of them. But he certainly hadn’t meant to pick up an interest in this current charge of his, and so he decided, then and there, that he had to somehow cut off his emotions toward this human. His only job was to save Caden’s life, because men this good didn’t deserve to get shot, and they certainly didn’t deserve to become just another murder statistic.

Persius sighed and pulled his metal-and-stone pendant out from under his shirt, then pulled it up over his head, placing it on the floor a few feet in front of his chair. ‘Cahatohne renuk bahan!’ He swirled his hand in the air above the pendant, and then waited – magic didn’t work quite as well in the human world as it worked in his own, one of the many reasons why he couldn’t just magic away human problems and human deaths. A shame, really, because he’d love a quick and easy solution to his current job – he desperately wanted to go home, back to his normal life, and, most importantly, to begin to forget that Caden had ever existed.
